Cabbage Casserole with Hamburger

I always start craving cabbage in the fall…so I thought I’d post an Amish casserole recipe from The Homestyle Amish Kitchen Cookbook that uses cabbage. If you try it, let me know what you think!

Recipe

2 heads cabbage, chopped
1 lb. hamburger
1/2 cup onion, chopped
1 pint sour cream
1 large can tomato juice (about 1 quart)
1 cup Cheddar cheese, shredded

Boil the cabbage and drain. Brown the hamburger and onion; drain.

In large bowl, mix everything together, pour into large baking dish, and bake at 400 degrees for 45 minutes. (Check the casserole while baking and turn down the oven temperature if it looks as though your casserole is browning too quickly.)

  1. Thank you very much for that. I was looking for a meaty stew recipe to get me through the xmas time, and this looks perfect. I found a whole stew recipes site here too that seems to have lots of good ideas, maybe your readers can get some more inspiration there. Anyway, thanks, I will bookmark and read more another time 😉
