I watched "Amish Grace" on Sunday evening and very much enjoyed it. I read the book, as well, and as heartbreaking a story as it was, I think it showed just how amazing these people really are. I cried throughout most of the movie because I understood both sides. I know that we are commanded to forgive but I also can understand how devastating it could be to lose a child, especially in that way. I, myself, don't know how I could possibly forgive such an act, even though I know I'd HAVE to. So heartbreaking for all concerned.

I'm watching the movie right now. I was very concerned about how it would be handled. Though I do have some reservations about the project, I will say that I'm glad the filmmakers chose not to dramatize any scenes of events unfolding inside the school house. Instead, the whole incident is shown from the point of view of the parents, police, etc., who are outside of the building. Thank goodness. In my opinion, trying to dramatize this horrible tragedy up close as it unfolded would've been a huge mistake.

Oh, my. I know the book was good--and the authors have written other books in the past that are very accurate. I'm really disappointed because this could have been a fine opportunity to express the Amish viewpoint.

I have read comments from other Amish fiction authors that have said this movie is not true to the book that it is based on. They said there are many discrepancies in the movie and that they think it does not honor the Amish. They said the book is very good, but out of respect to their Amish friends, they will not watch the movie. Apparently the authors of the book had nothing to do with the movie.
